The company
Established in 1984, the Compagnons de Charpente is located in the Abitibi region of Québec, in the small village of Rivière-Héva. Our projects have included houses, barns and other traditional timberframe structures, as well as «hybrid» structures employing artisanal (straw-bale) and modern construction techniques. Most of our projects are located in Abitibi and further south in the province of Québec.
We believe in the importance of providing all the information that our contractor and owner-builder clients need to ensure that their project — often a life’s dream — is a wonderful experience. We have offered workshops on timberframe and other lesser-known artisanal techniques, like mass-stove and straw-bale construction, as well as providing information on financing, planning and project management.
Master-carpenter Joseph-France Lefebvre began his training in 1981 with a crew of American timberframers. In 1985, the year it was formed, he became a member of the Timberframers Guild of North America and has since participated in numerous conferences and workshops in the U.S. and in Canada. He is assisted by a team who have been trained by him and who share his passion for this time-honored art.
